Policy
The mission of The Siena School is to provide an outstanding education to bright, college-bound students with language-based learning differences. We have developed an educational program and learning environment specifically designed for the unique needs of these students. Therefore, our program is most appropriate for students that exhibit all of the following characteristics:
- Are bright, college-bound students. Siena maintains rigorous academic standards and expects that all of our students will be preparing for competitive college matriculation.
- Have mild to moderate language-based learning needs. We serve students that have either diagnosed language-based learning disabilities, such as dyslexia, or clear evidence of language-based learning needs. Furthermore, our students will exhibit mild to moderate discrepancies between their intellectual abilities and academic performance in one or more areas such as reading, writing, oral expression or math. Admitted students will generally be no more than two grade levels behind in core subjects.
- Are of average to above-average abilities. Our program is designed for students with average to above-average abilities and intellectual potential. Admitted students will also generally display strengths or gifted abilities in one or more areas, including the creative arts.
- Are emotionally healthy and behaviorally appropriate. Siena is only equipped to serve students that are emotionally healthy and behaviorally appropriate. While some of our students may exhibit mild Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), we are unable to serve students with more significant emotional or behavioral challenges. Learning needs, not emotional or behavioral issues, will be the primary focus for our students.
